I just had my blood test taken for my high blood pressure. I was off medication for 1 year. My blood test results were fantastic. I was able to reverse my previous readings to the all time optimal range for my age. Doctor shared with me that whatever that i am doing now, i should continue and my next blood test will be next year 2027. I also requested for a ultrasound on my gall bladder as i did encounter gall stone for 2 sides. The doctor agree and i will be having a ultrasound check next year as well.
As i am reaching my 50 in year 2027, i also requested for a full body checkup. However polyclinic does not have that. The doctor advice that i should go for external clinics for that instead and should compare prices before deciding. I wanted to do the full body checkup as i read and also encounter males who are around that age group having cancer. It is best to have early detection than late. At least can do something about it in early stages. I'm a firm believer of that.
Here's a comparison of some popular providers:
| Provider | Typical Package | Approx. Cost (SGD) | Suitable For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raffles Health Screeners | Classic | $138 | Basic annual screening |
| Raffles Health Screeners | Plus | $398 | Comprehensive baseline |
| Raffles Health Screeners | Deluxe | $498 | Adds cancer markers and X-ray |
| Raffles Health Screeners | Deluxe Plus | $705 | More extensive blood tests and hepatitis screening |
| Raffles Health Screeners | Executive (Men) | $1,312 | Includes cardiac assessment and additional imaging |
| Fullerton Health Screening Centre | Men's screening | ~$300–700 | Similar to Raffles mid-tier packages |
| Healthway Screening @ Centrepoint | Executive packages | ~$300–900 | Wide range with optional add-ons |
| Lifescan Medical Centre | Executive screening | ~$500–1,000+ | More detailed preventive screening |
What should a good screening include?
A worthwhile package should include:
- Doctor consultation and physical examination
- Blood pressure, BMI, waist circumference
- Full blood count
- Cholesterol profile
- Blood sugar and HbA1c
- Kidney function
- Liver function
- Urine analysis
- ECG
- Chest X-ray (if appropriate for age/risk)
- Stool occult blood (especially from age 45–50 onwards)
Depending on my age and family history, you may also consider:
- PSA (prostate)
- Thyroid function
- Hepatitis B/C screening
- Colon cancer screening (FIT test or colonoscopy when indicated)
Based on my situation
From what you've shared previously, you are:
- 49 years old
- Exercise regularly (4–5 km jogging almost daily plus weekly strength training)
- BMI around 20
- Previously had hypertension but have been off medication for about a year under your doctor's supervision
- Practise 16-hour time-restricted eating
A package around S$400–700 would likely be the most appropriate. It should cover cardiovascular risk, diabetes screening, kidney and liver function, cholesterol, ECG, chest X-ray, and age-appropriate cancer screening without paying for many low-value tests.
